Laser Cataract surgery first in Japan
In June, 2012, he performed the first femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery in Japan.
Dr.Yamazaki is the most experienced surgeon of laser-assisted cataract surgery in Japan and has performed a large number of multifocal IOLs surgeries (over 4,197 cases of laser-assisted cataract surgery and 4,415 cases of multifocal IOLs, as of April 1st 2022).
He also regularly contributes to ophthalmic technology progress, making numerous presentations worldwide regarding laser cataract surgery at top international conferences, such as the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC),
About Us
It is our belief that providing the most advanced technology of ophthalmic surgery can improve the quality of vision dramatically and relieve the suffering of patients.
Since pioneering femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery in Japan in 2012, Omiya Nanasato Eye Institute has become the leader for the most advanced cataract surgery in East Asia.
We can help patients to attain improved vision by providing them with state-of-the-art cataract surgery and devices, namely multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). Cataract surgery using these can cure not only blurred vision due to cataracts such as conventional surgery, but also presbyopia (farsightedness due to aging).
We perform LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, namely laser treatment for vision correction) as well for patients who always need to use glasses or contact lenses, to eliminate their dependency on them.
The treatment of patients with retinal problems has been making progress in recent years, and we have been treating a large number of retinal disease cases, such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), using the injection of anti-VEGF(vascular endothelial growth factor) medicine.
Omiya Nanasato Eye Institute is a leading professional provider of the most advanced methods and technologies for vision correction - such as laser eye surgeries and retinal treatments.
Omiya Nanasato Eye Institute is fortunate to have patients from foreign countries who want to have cutting-edge cataract surgery and LASIK.
Having a great deal of experience at the forefront of technologies such as femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery using multifocal IOLs, and also LASIK, we can assure greatly improved vision.
Our staff can communicate with you entirely in English, if you wish.

Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery
The best way to ensure the most accurate and precise cataract surgery is to select femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.
It is quicker and more efficient compared to conventional manual surgery.
The OCT scanning enables the surgeon to precisely program key surgical steps.
The femtosecond laser makes 3-D corneal incisions more accurately and tightly compared to the manual blade method.
In manual surgery, surgeons make a ‘window’ on the anterior capsule, named capsulorhexis or capsulotomy. Unfortunately it is not possible to make the position and circumference perfectly accurate. However the femtosecond laser effectively makes perfect, well- centered capsulotomies with the correct circumference length. The femtosecond laser significantly reduces the amount of ultra-sound energy, which decreases the chance of internal eye damage.
Surgeon
Kenichiro Yamazaki, M.D. is the medical director and chief surgeon of Omiya Nanasato Eye Institute (ONEI).
Dr.Yamazaki started performing cataract surgeries using multifocal IOLs soon after ONEI was established in 2008.
In June, 2012, he performed the first femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery in Japan.
